Specific language impairment: speech perception in relation to noise

چکیده
Abstract Background Children with specific language impairment (SLI) fail to develop age-appropriate despite being apparently normal in other respects. Those children usually have abnormal speech perception noise. This work is designed investigate background noise those children. It included two groups of children: control group (15 typical development) and study (25 diagnosed SLI). All were submitted intelligence scale, assessment, full audiological evaluation, Arabic Pediatric Speech Intelligibility test (PSI). Results showed no statically significant difference total verbal IQ, while non-verbal IQ was significantly lower the group. As regard results audiometry, had better SRT higher WD% than Expressive, receptive, scores increased PSI increasing SNR from 0 +8dB both groups. The comparison between a score at different S/N recording conditions. Conclusions SLI difficulty when compared typically developed more apparent presence

Speech perception and lexical effects in specific language impairment.
Using an identification task, we examined lexical effects on the perception of vowel duration as a cue to final consonant voicing in 12 children with specific language impairment (SLI) and 13 age-matched (6;6-9;6) peers with typical language development (TLD). Naturally recorded CV/t/sets [word-word (WW), nonword-nonword (NN), word-nonword (WN) and nonword-word (NW)] were edited to create four ...
متن کاملspeech perception in noise mechanisms
background and aim: it will be discussed about five mechanisms in relation to speech in noise perception; including neural encoding and decoding, centrifugal pathways, pitch perception, asymmetric sampling in time and cognitive skills. these mechanisms are related to each other and each is important to recognize speech in noise. in this article, we have tried to rely on the latest studies to de...
متن کاملDeficits in speech perception predict language learning impairment.
Specific language impairment (SLI) is one of the most common childhood disorders, affecting 7% of children. These children experience difficulties in understanding and producing spoken language despite normal intelligence, normal hearing, and normal opportunities to learn language. The causes of SLI are still hotly debated, ranging from nonlinguistic deficits in auditory perception to high-leve...
متن کاملAtypical audio-visual speech perception and McGurk effects in children with specific language impairment
Audiovisual speech perception of children with specific language impairment (SLI) and children with typical language development (TLD) was compared in two experiments using /aCa/ syllables presented in the context of a masking release paradigm. Children had to repeat syllables presented in auditory alone, visual alone (speechreading), audiovisual congruent and incongruent (McGurk) conditions. S...
متن کاملEffect of signal to noise ratio on the speech perception ability of older adults
Background: Speech perception ability depends on auditory and extra-auditory elements. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is an extra-auditory element that has an effect on the ability to normally follow speech and maintain a conversation. Speech in noise perception difficulty is a common complaint of the elderly. In this study, the importance of SNR magnitude as an extra-auditory effect on speech...
